Acts of terrorism
The Guarantee Fund for the victims of acts of terrorism and other offences compensates all victims, irrespective of their nationality, for acts of terrorism perpetrated in France as from January 1985.
For acts of terrorism perpetrated abroad, the Guarantee Fund compensates only victims of French nationality.
The Public Prosecutor or the diplomatic or consular authority abroad informs the Guarantee Fund of an attack and of the identity of the victims. In such cases, the Guarantee Fund contacts the victims directly for their compensation.
Any person who considers himself or herself to have been the victim of an act of terrorism can send a claim for compensation directly to the Guarantee Fund.
If all the necessary conditions are met, the compensation covers the bodily injuries of those injured and, for the deceased, the moral and economic damage caused to the beneficiaries. Compensation must be made according to the time period and amicable procedure laid down in law.
The documents to be produced in a claim for compensation include the documentary evidence of the act of terrorism, the civil status of the victim and the details of the damage suffered.
